interlocked or wavy. rather brittle. Resistant to decay, moderately resistant to termites. Highly resistant to moisture absorption.

Soft enough for indentations to be easily made on surface.

LOCUST (Hymenaea courbaril APPEARANCE Light Brown to brown, often with dark streaks and a subdued golden glow.
Sapwood whitish grey and is sharply defined. PROPERTIES Texture medium to coarse with straight grains. Medium luster.
Very hard and strong. Relatively stable when dried. Very resistant to decay.
